Community Guidelines

The Rest of Activism is a community of climate concerned folks from a diverse range of locations and backgrounds coming together to support each other through our climate sorrow.

Most live sessions include some community discussion, whether in the main session or in breakouts.

To help us connect with each other in ways that feel meaningful, healthy and mutually supportive, even where there will be many differences between us, members are encouraged to observe the following guidelines...

  • Members are encouraged to speak from the ‘I’, meaning to speak from our own experiences and perspectives, and to avoid making statements about others or the world generally. ‘Cross talking’, meaning directly responding to others’ shares, is therefore also discouraged, unless explicitly invited.

  • The Rest of Activism aims to be as inclusive as possible, including for people of all ages, abilities, genders, race, religion or belief, and sexual orientation. Members are encouraged and supported throughout our sessions together and beyond, to practice commitment to inclusivity.

  • Members are encouraged to be mindful of the time allocated to their individual sharing so everyone may have the opportunity to share if they wish to.

  • Members are encouraged to share in the spirit of service to others such as the gifts of being authentic, open-hearted and kind, but are reminded that they are not responsible for the challenges or problems facing other members.

  • That climate change is real and an existential threat to life is not debated within The Rest of Activism. Whilst members will each have strong opinions about what action is to be taken , members are encouraged to approach discussions with other members in a spirit of trust and non-judgementalism.

  • Ultimately, self-care must come first for each of us and members are therefore encouraged to take what serves them from discussions and are given full permission to simply leave what doesn’t.
